Klahoose CCP
Last week, Klahoose First Nation was highlighted in a story by reporter Paul Galinski of the Powell River Peak.
The following is an excerpt from that story:

In terms of gaining economic self-sufficiency, the Klahoose First Nation can really see the forest for the trees.

Now operating a community forest licence in the band’s traditional territory in the Toba River region, the first nation’s timber harvest is the root of future prosperity.

Ken Brown, chief councillor of the Klahoose, said he thinks one of the important factors is an understanding from his first nation that governmental program and transfer dollars are on the decline.

“Right now it’s important for first nations, especially in our community, to start developing own-source revenue opportunities,” he said. “Self-sufficiency, self-reliance and independence from government are what really strengthens communities and strengthens the sovereignty of the Klahoose First Nation.”
