Tow from Powell River, B.C.
On the spot news! · 23rd June 2010
Klahoose CCP
A new chapter in Klahoose First Nation history was written as the new dock arrived in Squirrel Cove IR #7.

Arriving at 11:00 am on the rising tide was the landing craft ‘John Alfred’ operated by Spick and Sons Projects. The 80 foot concrete and foam platform was in tow through Desolation Sound and was greeted by Klahoose Fisheries Officer Ken Hanuse.

The float itself was manufactured out of Powell River by Kevin Winiski of PR Concrete Floats Limited. Crews were at the site on the early tide to drill the anchor bolts to hold the large platform in place.

The new dock represents not only future opportunities for economic development but is a dream come true for Klahoose Band members like Bill Barnes.
“We have been waiting for this moment for years; some good changes have taken place.” said Bill.

The next development will be the construction of a road for access to the new dock. Many positive opportunities are ahead with the implementation of the new dock including float plane access, commercial services and ease of access for Klahoose membership alike.
