Food fish is a very valuable asset of the Klahoose. A lot of intensive and hard work is involved in the overall harvest of salmon. The fishermen, using seine nets, run their boats up next to a tie up spot where a beach line is then secured. The Seine net is attached to this beach line, the Seine boat has a seine net on a drum, much like a gill-net drum but much larger. The Seine boat speeds away from the tie-up spot once the beach line is secured to a tie up spot on shore and sets the net in a horseshoe shaped fashion. A purse line, fed through stainless steel rings that are attached along the lead line, is used to close the bottom portion of the seine net creating a bag like shape that the fish are captured and contained in. The captured fish are then brailed from the bag and loaded into the fish holds inside the seine decking. This action is repeated until the desired amount of fish is harvested and delivered. A great deal of appreciation is a prize warranted to these fishermen.
