Klahoose Fisheries office is in the thick of the herring egg fishery season. Unlike last year, there has been very effective communication and cooperation with DFO managers for Klahoose to participate in the fishery this season. With help from Terry Chickite, Norman Harry Sr, Steven Francis and members of the Chickite Clan from Cape Mudge, the herring egg fishery is actively underway. Admittedly, this is my first experience practicing a traditional method of harvesting for herring eggs. The weather has been keeping us from going out to sea and setting our cedar boughs near the spawning herring. This current break in the winds is looking hopeful for a successful run this time out. I will post more pictures of the result of this fishery soon.
