Klahoose First Nation
The Klahoose legacy fund is a financial trust created in partnership with the Powell River Educational Services Society to help with the educational and social goals of Klahoose First Nation members.

Klahoose has been working on a policy to help administer the program effectively and efficiently. This new program is the first of many social programs that are in place to assist members with educational opportunities.
The general purpose of the fund is to support the pursuit of broad educational and training needs that are not already funded by government or other sources. More specifically, the Legacy fund will assist in removing the financial barriers that Klahoose members, groups and organizations have faced in pursuing the educational and skills training advantages associated with participation in sports or social activities that involve art, culture or language.

Some specific policy items are as follows and are in the policy attached to this article:

• Funding decisions will be made twice yearly, following application deadlines of June 1st and November 1st with up to $37,500 awarded in each funding round
• Funding decisions and subsequent processing of the financial arrangements could take up to six weeks, so the applicant must factor in these time constraints in planning their application
•The Legacy fund will support successful applicants to a maximum of $2500 per person per year
•Each application will be reviewed and will up to a six week waiting period after the date of the application. After a decision has been made the applicant will be informed by mail, email or phone
•Examples of the kinds of educational and training opportunities that the fund is designed to provide assistance with include support to parents to encourage their children to benefit from the educational opportunities inherent in extra-curricular sports, arts and cultural pursuits and addressing course and program time limits imposed by the post-secondary student support program to encourage participation in short term training courses
•Each applicant will be required to submit supporting documents such as receipts, invoices, proposals or letter of references
