ZERO VIOLENCE POLICY APPROVED

In early November Chief and Council approved a zero-violence policy that has been months in the making.

A team of staff and community members has recommended a plan of action; the new policy is intended to make the community a safe place for all community members; support victims of violence, hold offenders responsible for their actions, and recommends the use of traditional approaches where possible to address incidents of violence.

Community members will be invited to reply to a survey that is designed to help the group find out how everyone feels about violence and what everyone thinks should be done to decrease violence in the community.

The bottom line: when no action is taken, the cycle of violence continues; when we neglect to address violence, we enable offenders who need help; the truth is that safety is a basic human right.

MULTI-PURPOSE BUILDING PROGRESS REPORT

Our new Klahoose building project is full steam ahead - Ledcor Construction has moved the construction/safety office to site, excavation is mostly complete with the contractor now working on underground services and drainage issues, and the formwork/concrete contractor has begun to construct the foundation formwork. The current target date is November 25-26 for pouring the first cement for the foundations.

There will be many employment opportunities available to band members, and we thank everyone who has shown an interest in working on our project. We expect that over the eight months of the project that everyone will be given a chance to work in some way on one or more of the sub trades. If you are interested in working on the project, please contact Construction Superintendent Paul Halverson who will let you know who to apply to for work with sub trades.

The construction site is now considered to be fully active, and visitors as asked to check in at the Ledcor project office (down the lower road) before entering the site. Hard hats and safety gear will be required on site at all times herein.

SQUIRREL COVE DOCK

Klahoose First Nation plans to install a dock in the inner Squirrel Cove harbor and create access on the old trail system. The project will likely take place over the winter months, and will begin with layout and clearing of the trail.
