Construction at the new multipurpose building has been moving at a record speed.

On December 22nd a second concrete pour took place before the Christmas break and will almost complete the foundation preparation. In the New Year expect to see the next phase of the building commence.
Due to the adverse weather conditions in Squirrel Cove on the first pour, Ledcor and TTMP Construction heated up the materials to do a unique procedure to make sure the concrete would set properly and on time. No going home early for the crew, as they were getting used to long shifts working well past sun down. Flood lights applied to the site helped make working in the dark possible.

Along with the contractors and local Cortes Island labour, a strong show of Klahoose members has been a part of the growing employment opportunities at the project. Laurier Louie, Johnny Hanuse and Billy Barnes have been working hard over the last few months. As the project develops further; so will the increase of need for Klahoose members to work.
Not only has this project boosted the Klahoose employment but we are one of the largest employers on Cortes Island. The project has hired local Contractors Reo McCoy and his employees as well as contractors Ried Wescott and Ron Wolda.
BC Hydro has hooked up the power to the site and is looking into improving the infrastructure of the overall power grid in the Squirrel Cove area. This is due to the increasing need for power for the village and the construction site. These upgrades will benefit Klahoose and the local Squirrel Cove area.
