Klahoose Fisheries
A successful community Clam dig took place December 11, 12 and 13th, 2009. This project was organized by Fisheries officer Ken Hanuse on the Klahoose Shellfish Lease in Squirrel Cove. This project was supported by Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation for Klahoose First Nation.
Ken Hanuse was happy about the results, as well as the overwhelming participation of Klahoose Youth. “We harvested approximately 2040 lbs. and had to dispose of at least 500lbs of culls, under-size and other clams. I was really proud of everyone”, said Ken.
A new site will be prepared for construction of a hatchery station at the present Klahoose hatchery in Squirrel Cove. Hydro will be connected to the site to help with continuing the hatchery program in the spring. Check for updates in the New Year.
