New Dock in Squirrel CoveThe 30 year old vision of having suitable access to Squirrel Cove Bay may soon become a reality. After review of archived community plans and with the construction of service roads for the new multipurpose building, a plan to construct a new dock is in place. At this time, Klahoose members and invited guests can take the new trail that will end up at the location of the new dock facilities. This rugged trail is for foot traffic but will be upgraded soon to accommodate vehicles. Hydro right -of-way is in progress as well.
The introduction of the dock facilities will open new opportunities for tourism, aquaculture, and ease of access for Klahoose operations and for Klahoose membership’s enjoyment.
Elders Van in DiscussionThe Klahoose Elders want a van for traveling to events. The Elders committee recently received a cash donation of $20 000.00 from Plutonic Power. The committee approached Klahoose Chief and Council about using these funds to pay for a new vehicle that could transport elders and community members in need. Chief and Council have responded and are interested in combining all Klahoose Departments with the Elders funds and purchase a suitable vehicle. Some of the costs will be donated by the Elders committee but other Klahoose departments will be providing financial support. The biggest issue that needs to be resolved is a policy to cover the use, maintenance, insurance and responsibility of the vehicle.

Local EmploymentWith the milling project nearing completion, Klahoose members can look forward to future employment opportunities with the wood that was milled. A large amount of siding was produced and will need to be organized for the multipurpose building. Klahoose will be hiring to help with the siding including other projects such as decking, trim and finishing projects. Look for updates on these opportunities soon or on the Klahoose web site
