Background on the new policy:
“In early November Chief and Council approved a zero-violence policy that has been months in the making.
A team of staff and community members has recommended a plan of action; the new policy is intended to make the community a safe place for all community members; support victims of violence, hold offenders responsible for their actions, and recommends the use of traditional approaches where possible to address incidents of violence.

Community members will be invited to reply to a survey that is designed to help the group find out how everyone feels about violence and what everyone thinks should be done to decrease violence in the community.

The bottom line: when no action is taken, the cycle of violence continues; when we neglect to address violence, we enable offenders who need help; the truth is that safety is a basic human right (November 2009).”
