Klahoose Shellfish Limited Partnership is seeking a motivated, experienced person to manage its shellfish leases and tenures.
The Program Manager reports to the Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation Management Team. S/he will provide strategic leadership and in field management activities. The manager will be responsible for developing, marketing and managing the Aquaculture resources of the Klahoose Shellfish Limited Partnership. The Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing the aquaculture crew. S/he will be responsible for maintaining proper records and correspondence with the regulatory agencies.
The manager’s main tasks and responsibilities will be as follows:
- Responsible to the Qathen Xwegus Management and to the Klahoose Shellfish Limited Partnerships for human and financial resources
- Develop and implement a safe workplace strategy ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legal requirements including environmental, work place safety, and health standards and other (provincial , federal) standards that may apply;
- Management/reporting to regulatory agencies
- Assess the status and harvesting of KFN aquaculture resources on a regular basis;
- Maintain and enhance the growth of the KFN aqua resources;
- Manage and maintain aqua facilities/farm facilities and other equipment including the boat.
- Develop and maintain a marketing strategy and manage relationships with brokers.
- Prepare and manage budgets for the operations.
- Responsible for human resources strategy and management for the shellfish employees.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experienced in operation of Shellfish Tenures on the Coast of BC
- Excellent interpersonal and management skills
- Excellent communications skills in both written and spoken forms
- Proven track record managing a crew.
- Ability to prepare and manage budgets.
- Understanding of the requirements of BC shellfish tenures.
- Licensed to operate a vehicle and boat (BC)

JOB COACH position in Powell River.. This person will be required to act as the employee Liaison to Peter Kiewit & Sons (PKS) and will also be required to travel to the job sites and communities as part of the position.
The position will be an employee of the VanAsep Training Society for the interim. Normally, these positions are co funded, however, VanAsep will fund this position for the period of April 01, 2008 to June 30, 2008 pending project approval of a new project that will include as part of the project the Montrose Toba (PKS)/ First Nations/ VanAsep partnership.
The VanAsep Job Coach (JC) is a critical component to the success of the Employment Model. The JC will take a lead role in participant assessment, evaluation and management. The JC will develop and maintain a relationship with the participant but they will also develop and maintain a close connection with potential employers in the geographic region. Through these connections the JC will assist participants and employers to bridge barriers and promote positive work-site and training situations.
Conducts initial interviews and assessment
Develops employability skills
Counsels and gives career advice
Assists project participants to overcome barriers to employment
Provides liaison between workers and employers
Provides reports to VanAsep Administration
Tracks all employed clients.
In order to effectively achieve the desired results, the JC should have the following qualifications:
Journeyperson certification in a construction trade
Extensive experience within the construction industry
Good knowledge of construction activity in the specified geographic area
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills
Life skills training or background would be an asset
Good working knowledge of computers
The ability to work independently within a team environment
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Knowledge of the participants’ language and culture would be an asset.
